Minor boy dies after being stabbed by his mother's ex-partner in Portugal

A 13-year-old boy has died after being stabbed in his home in Portugal. The perpetrator is suspected to be the ex-partner of the boy's mother.

Authorities found the minor and the suspected attacker with multiple stab wounds after receiving a domestic violence complaint.

Moments after they arrived on the scene, a suspected gas explosion destroyed the house, believed to have been deliberately caused by the perpetrator, injuring an officer in the process.

According to authorities, the suspected perpetrator also died at the scene. The serious incident occurred in the village of Casais in the municipality of Tomar, about 90 miles northeast of the capital, Lisbon.

According to media reports, the alleged perpetrator had served a prison sentence for aggravated murder. Neighbors said arguments could often be heard from the family home and that the mother filed a complaint with authorities against her ex-partner in 2023. /CNA
