US President Donald Trump has suggested that the best way to end the war in Ukraine would be to partition the Donbas region, in a way that would leave most of the region under Russian control.
"Let it be torn apart as it is. It's torn apart now, it can be left as it is now. They can negotiate something later. But for now, both sides of the conflict need to stop at the battle line, go home, stop fighting, stop killing people," Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One.
Trump's comments come after Friday's meeting at the White House with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, where they discussed ending the war through an idea for Ukraine to give up large swaths of territory.
A day earlier, on an American television program, Zelensky stated that he believes Russian President Vladimir Putin is afraid that the United States will deliver Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine, which could become an obstacle to a peace agreement between the two countries. /CNA
