Holocaust survivors call on young people to vote in the European elections

Eight survivors of the Holocaust have called on young people to use their right for the benefit of democracy.

"For millions of you, the European elections are the first in your life, for us they may be the last," said the open letter that was published in the German capital, Berlin, on Tuesday.

"Let democracy have a chance. Get out and vote. Let's show together that 'Never again' is not just a phrase, but a promise. A promise that is fulfilled even today. Tomorrow too. Always".

Among the signatories of the letter are the 102-year-old Georg Stefan Troller, Leon Weintraub, Walter Frankenstein, Eva Szepesi, Ruth Winkelmann and Margit Korge.

The letter was also signed by Renate Aris and Eva Umlauf, who experienced Nazi persecution as children.

The open letter is titled "Never again is now".

"Four of the five closest family members, sisters, parents, cousins, have been killed. The murders were the result of the approach 'We are better than others' and the consequence of radical thoughts and xenophobia. This, unfortunately, means that history can repeat itself, but it should not repeat itself in any way," said Weintraub.

The elections for the European Parliament will be held in the period June 6-9./ REL
