New US-Ukraine meeting/ Zelensky announces continuation of talks in Saudi Arabia

Ukrainian and American officials are expected to meet in Saudi Arabia in the coming days to continue peace talks, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced in a social media post.

Following a phone call between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin on March 18, a partial ceasefire in attacks on energy infrastructure was agreed upon. Zelensky and Trump held a follow-up phone call on March 19 to discuss the US president's conversation with Putin the day before, with Zelensky agreeing to halt attacks on Russian energy infrastructure.

Zelensky's announcement comes after US National Security Adviser Mike Waltz said on social media that talks between Russian and US delegations to discuss a ceasefire in Ukraine will also take place in the coming days in Riyadh. It is not yet clear when the meetings will take place, or whether the Ukrainian delegation will meet face-to-face with their Russian counterparts.

"Ukrainian and American teams are ready to meet in Saudi Arabia in the coming days to continue coordinating steps towards peace. We instructed our advisers and representatives to carry out this work as soon as possible," Zelensky said.

Zelensky said that the US and Ukrainian delegations will continue to work out technical issues related to the partial ceasefire. /CNA
