President Kennedy's assassination/New materials released after 62 years

Thousands of classified recordings and materials related to the assassination of American President John F. Kennedy were released in the US, a full 62 years ago.

President Trump said people have been waiting decades to see 80,000 pages of records related to the Kennedy assassination. Shortly after taking office, he signed an executive order directing the release of thousands of files related to the assassinations of Kennedy, Robert F. Kennedy and Martin Luther King Jr.

The documents were posted on the National Archives website Tuesday evening. It may take some time before scholars who have studied the JFK assassination can sift through the more than 2,000 newly posted documents, which were identified only by record numbers and no descriptions.

But there is no indication that the files will contain any 'bombshell' material, according to a researcher who has already seen many of the recordings.

The federal government in the early 1990s ordered all documents related to the November 22, 1963, assassination to be placed in a single collection at the National Archives. And while the vast majority of the collection, which includes more than 5 million pages of records, has been made public, researchers estimate that 3,000 files have not been released, either in whole or in part.
