Trump-Putin phone call/ What to expect from today's conversation

US President Donald Trump will hold a phone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin this Tuesday, with the aim of agreeing to a ceasefire agreement for the war in Ukraine.

Before the call, Trump said that many elements have been agreed upon, but warned that much remains to be done and discussed.

Ahead of the long-awaited phone call, Trump posted on the 'Truth Social' network that he would speak with Putin on Tuesday morning, local time in Washington.

He said that while there has been an agreement, there remains much work to be done.

"Every week brings 2,500 deaths of soldiers, on both sides, and it must end NOW. I look forward to the call with President Putin," Trump wrote.

Relations between the US and Russia have changed direction after Donald Trump returned to the White House.

Trump has made resolving the war in Ukraine one of his top priorities, increasing engagement with Moscow in the process.

But it's not just Washington that has adopted a warm approach. Just last week, when he gave his first response to the ceasefire, Vladimir Putin continued his positive stance towards the US president, praising him for improving relations between the two countries./CNA
