Winter storm in the USA / How the situation is presented in Michigan

While many states in the Eastern US are forecasting snow, snarling traffic, school closures and many state institutions, Michigan is forecast for cold, storm-free, snow-free weather for the rest of the week.

A major winter storm moving east from the Mid-Atlantic Plains is expected to bring snow, ice and strong winds to some areas in its path.

Millions of people are under ongoing thunderstorm warnings for parts of Kansas, Nebraska and Missouri.

The National Weather Service warned of "significant disruptions to daily life," including "hazardous or impossible driving conditions and widespread closures," making travel "very difficult to impossible" throughout the day.

Washington, Baltimore and Philadelphia are among the major Northeast cities bracing for snowy and icy conditions today and tomorrow, with parts of Virginia expecting 5 to 12 inches of snow.
