"It's a very technical issue"/ Rubio: Negotiations on Iran's

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said on Tuesday that negotiations on Iran's nuclear program will be very technical and could last for months.

According to Rubio, the second phase of the process will require Iran to engage in detailed negotiations over the fate of its highly enriched uranium, which is located in facilities hidden deep in the mountains.

He said Tehran must also accept strict and long-term restrictions, or even the cessation of uranium enrichment activities within the country.

"These are very technical issues and cannot be resolved in five days. It will take a team of experts to work for 30, 60 or 90 days to determine the details," Rubio told the US Senate Foreign Relations Committee.

He added that Iran has agreed to negotiate some aspects of its nuclear program, but did not specify which ones. Rubio stressed that negotiations do not necessarily guarantee reaching an agreement acceptable to the US Senate or the American people.

According to him, before this phase begins, Iran must declare that the Strait of Hormuz is open to navigation, without transit fees, remove naval mines, and stop attacks on ships.

Rubio also stressed that the United States has not offered Iran sanctions relief in exchange for opening the strait and that any lifting of sanctions would depend on meeting the conditions set. /CNA
