145 migrants rescued aboard a boat south of Crete

A total of 145 migrants were rescued in the last 24 hours in the sea area south of the island of Gavdos, near Crete.

This morning, a Coast Guard patrol boat, assisted by a drone from Frontex, the EU border agency, found and rescued 36 foreign nationals on board a boat. The rescued were safely transferred to the port of Sfakia.

On Monday, in the same maritime area, a Frontex vessel, with the assistance of a transit vessel, rescued 43 foreigners from a dinghy eight nautical miles south of Gavdos, who were transferred to the island's port.

Greek media reports that 66 other people were rescued from a dinghy 14 nautical miles south of the same island and were also taken to port. /CNA
