Scientists reveal the top five anti-aging foods

Improving your diet lowers the risk of certain diseases, boosts immunity and supports brain development.

And now, a new study has found that including five certain foods in your meals can help you live longer—and they're all plant-based. 

US-based scientists found that eating whole grains, fruit, non-starchy vegetables, nuts and unsaturated oils can help reduce the risk of some killer conditions, writes The Sun.

Study author Linh Bui from Harvard University said: "These healthy plant-based foods were associated with a lower risk of chronic diseases, such as heart disease, bowel cancer, diabetes, stroke and total mortality," he writes. The Sun.

Researchers analyzed the diets and health outcomes of over 100,000 participants over more than three decades.

They found that those who ate a more vegan-friendly diet — eating the aforementioned foods — were 15 percent less likely to die from cancer or heart disease.

The same group also had a 20 percent lower risk of dying from neurodegenerative diseases like dementia, and a 50 percent lower risk of dying from respiratory diseases. Meanwhile, those who consumed fewer plant-based foods and more non-vegan foods, such as meat and eggs, were more likely to end up with chronic diseases./ CNA
