US-Iran deal signing ceremony to be held at Swiss mountain resort

Switzerland announced that the signing ceremony of the agreement between the United States and Iran, aimed at ending the conflict in the Middle East, will be held in the mountain resort of Bürgenstock.

The Swiss Foreign Ministry said it has been in close contact with the US, Iran, Pakistan and Qatar regarding the possibility of signing a memorandum of understanding between Washington and Tehran.

"Currently, the signing of the document is scheduled for Friday, June 19, in Bürgenstock, located in the canton of Nidwalden. This location has been proposed by Pakistani and Qatari mediators, as well as the United States and Iran," the statement said.

Burgenstock is a well-known residential and conference complex in central Switzerland, which has previously hosted international meetings and diplomatic negotiations.

Iran and the United States electronically signed the memorandum of understanding to end the war on June 15, drafted in the form of a general document.

The official signing of the document is scheduled to take place on June 19, in the presence of senior officials from both countries.

Separately, on June 16, US leader Donald Trump said he would send the peace deal with Iran to the US Congress for review.

Speaking to reporters during a meeting with United Arab Emirates President Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan on the sidelines of the G7 summit in France, Trump said: "I haven't thought about it before, but I will... I will send it to Congress. I like the idea. Who wouldn't approve of it?"

Some Republican lawmakers had earlier called for congressmen to review the text of the agreement.

Trump also promised to make the text of the Iran deal public "within a day or two" and suggested that he might even read the entire document publicly, once a formal framework for its release is established.

According to Reuters, he said he was waiting for a formal procedure before publication, but added that there was no objection to it being made public.

"I wish there was an official framework for this sooner, but I have no problem with the publication, it's a great document," Trump said.

He added that the main provision of the agreement is simple: "Iran will never have nuclear weapons."

Regarding the next phase of negotiations with Iran, for which a 60-day deadline has been set, Trump expressed optimism that progress will be rapid.

"I think it will go very quickly," he said, adding that Iran wants to finalize the process and return to normal economic and diplomatic activity.

"Iran wants to end this. They need to get back to their normal activities and relations are now normalized, so I think this process will move very quickly."

Trump warned that the timeline could change, but reiterated his expectations for a quick conclusion: "It could go faster, it could take longer, but it could be over very quickly."

US Vice President JD Vance has previously stated that the document - which the parties signed electronically - is about a page and a half long.

The war began after the US and Israel carried out air strikes on Iran in late February. Tehran retaliated with attacks on US assets in the region and has virtually closed the Strait of Hormuz since the conflict began.

The agreement also foresees the reopening of the strait through which one-fifth of global oil and gas shipments pass./ Rel
