US: Syria to withdraw forces from south after Israeli attacks

The US is calling on Syria to withdraw its troops from the southern border area to allow for de-escalation with Israel.

State Department spokeswoman Tammy Bruce made the comments after clashes between Syrian government troops and local Druze fighters resumed in the southern town of Suwaydas, hours after a ceasefire agreement.

In an interview with the American channel 'Fox News', Bruce spoke about the recent attacks in East Meske, where he also emphasized the message for the Syrian state.

"We are calling on the Syrian government to withdraw its military in order to allow all parties to be able to de-escalate," Bruce said.

Earlier today, the Syrian Interior Ministry and a Druze leader, Sheikh Yousef Jarbou, said a ceasefire had been reached in Suwayda.

In a statement, the ministry outlined the parameters of the agreement, which it said included an immediate cessation of all military operations./CNA
