US strikes ship suspected of transporting drugs in Pacific

US forces have struck another ship suspected of transporting drugs, this time in the waters of the Pacific Ocean, CBS reports.

According to two US officials cited in the report, it is believed that two or three people on board were killed.

If confirmed, the attack marks the eighth US attack against suspected drug-carrying ships since September 2, but the first in the Caribbean.

At least 34 people have been killed in US attacks on suspected drug ships, including a recent attack on a submarine in the Caribbean.

US President Donald Trump and other administration officials have repeatedly justified the strikes as a necessary counternarcotics measure to combat drug trafficking organizations, some of which have been designated as terrorist organizations by the US government./ CNA
