US sends military ships and planes closer to Israel

The United States will send military ships and aircraft closer to Israel in the Eastern Mediterranean in a show of support after the Hamas attack, Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin said.

Secretary Austin added that the United States will provide ammunition to Israel and that security assistance will begin arriving on Sunday. " The Pentagon will also add fighter jets to the region ," he said.

US President Joe Biden told Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Sunday that additional aid to the Israel Defense Forces was on its way to Israel and further support would follow in the coming days, the White House said after the call between them.

Mr Austin said he had ordered a fleet of ships, including the Ford aircraft carrier, to be moved closer to Israel.

"I have ordered the USS Gerald R. Ford aircraft carrier to be deployed to the Eastern Mediterranean, " he said in his statement./ VOA
