The advancement of Albania and North Macedonia's path to the EU is the key to strengthening the cohesion and stability of the entire European continent, says the joint statement of the High Representative of the EU, Josep Borrell, and the Secretary of State, Antony Blinken.

“Në këtë moment kritik të historisë evropiane, i shënuar nga agresioni i pajustifikueshëm i kryer nga Rusia kundër Ukrainës, avancimi i rrugës së Shqipërisë dhe Maqedonisë së Veriut në BE është çelësi për forcimin e kohezionit dhe qëndrueshmërisë së të gjithë kontinentit evropian”, thuhet në deklaratën e 9 korrikut.

Sipas deklaratës, të dyja vendet janë gati të ndërmarrin hapin tjetër drejt anëtarësimit në BE.

Në deklaratë thuhet se BE dhe SHBA mirëpresin një propozim kompromisi që merr parasysh interesat dhe shqetësimet e Maqedonisë së Veriut dhe Bullgarisë “bazuar në respektin, besimin dhe mirëkuptimin reciprok”.

"The sovereign decision of the Assembly of North Macedonia will be important to move forward. This spirit of constructive compromise on which European integration is built should continue to inspire all those involved in this historic process", the joint statement says.

The European Union and the United States say they are committed to closer cooperation in the Western Balkans.

"Ensuring stability and prosperity and realizing their European and Euro-Atlantic future remains our common goal".
