The murder of former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe during a speech today has shocked the world opinion.
The execution assassin, in a testimony before the authorities, also confessed the reason that led him to the crime that took Abe's life.
Tetsuya Yamagami, 41, admitted to senior police officers in the western Nara region, where the assassination took place, that he was the one who shot the Japanese Prime Minister, and that the reason he did so was that he suspected he was part of an organization he resented.
Police said it was not clear whether the "special organization" mentioned by the suspect actually existed, adding that investigations were ongoing, but some Japanese media described the organization as a religious group or sect.
Abe died in hospital on Friday morning after being shot while speaking at a political campaign event.
"Tetsuya Yamagami has admitted to shooting him with a homemade weapon," police said.
Abe was Japan's longest-serving prime minister and his death at the age of 67 has deeply shaken a country where gun crime is rare. /CNA.al
