Blackmailing vendors and cafe owners/ 3 Albanians arrested in Athens

Several people were arrested today in Athens, including 3 Albanians, after according to the Greek police they were blackmailing and extorting money from vendors and cafe owners in several neighborhoods of the Greek capital. The citizens were operating in the Patisia, Kypseli and Agios Panteleimonas areas to threaten the owners.

"They approach health stores and, leaving a cell phone number, ask the store owners to call them to agree on the amount they will pay to provide them with protection," the report on the event states.

Recently, the group of extortionists appeared on Konstantinou Kavafi Street in Patisia. Police immediately located the suspects outside a cafe, as two of them were "known" to the authorities due to their service in the "night" department.

The gang members had their faces covered and were parked about three blocks from the store where they were seen. All four were inside the cafe and the fifth was left at the entrance. When they were approached by Greek police officers. They resisted and reacted violently, but were stopped and eventually arrested. During the preliminary investigation, two of the defendants appeared to have admitted to the charges and admitted to blackmailing the vendors. 

From the searches carried out in their homes, a combat vest and a bulletproof vest were found, among other things. /CNA
