The first 100 days as US president/ What Donald Trump promises to change

The first 100 days of a presidential term took on symbolic significance during Franklin D. Roosevelt's first term in office, and this period is considered a benchmark for measuring a president's early success.

Donald Trump's second and current term as president of the United States began with his inauguration on January 20, 2025.

Trump pledged to do the following in the first 100 days of his presidency:

-Appoints judges "who will uphold the Constitution" and "protect the Second Amendment"

-Build a wall on the southern border of the US and limit illegal immigration

-Reevaluate trade agreements with other nations and "squeeze" companies that send jobs overseas

-Affordable Care Act or Obamacare; Repeal and replacement of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act

-Removes federal restrictions on energy production

-Amendment to the United States Constitution that establishes term limits in Congress

-Elimination of gun-free zones

-Formulates a rule on regulations "that for every new regulation, two old regulations must be eliminated"

-Directs the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff to "develop a comprehensive plan to protect America's critical infrastructure from cyberattacks and all other forms of attack."

-Enforces rules and regulations on China's unfair subsidy practices. Directs the U.S. Trade Representative to bring trade cases against China, both in the U.S. and at the WTO.

-Use every lawful presidential power to remedy trade disputes, including the application of 45% tariffs pursuant to Sections 201 and 301 of the Trade Act of 1974 and Section 232 of the Trade Expansion Act of 1962 to stop China's illegal activities, including the theft of American trade secrets.

Trump is the second president in US history to serve non-consecutive terms after Grover Cleveland in 1893 and is the oldest individual to assume the presidency./CNA
