Russian forces have destroyed more than 30 Ukrainian drones in the area near the border, the Russian Defense Ministry said on Sunday, June 30.

"Air defense systems destroyed 15 drones over the Kursk region, nine over Lipetsk, four drones each over the Voronezh and Briyansk regions, and two each over the Oryol and Belgorod regions," the Russian ministry said in a Telegram post.

The governor of Voronezh, Aleksandar Gusev, wrote in "Telegram" that the air force destroyed "several Ukrainian drones", adding that there were no reports of casualties or material damage.

Both sides use drones during the war, which Russia launched against Ukraine in February 2022.

During this year, Ukraine has intensified its attacks on Russian territory, targeting energy buildings it says supply the Russian military, but also towns and villages in border regions.

Russian President Vladimir Putin last month launched a new ground offensive in the northeastern Ukrainian region of Kharkiv. He said that with this operation he aims to create a "no zone" and push back the Ukrainian forces in order to protect the Russian border region of Belgorod from shelling./ REL
