"Reopening of the Strait of Hormuz should be tax-free"/ Meloni: Italy

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni participated in the Europe-Persian Gulf Forum in Greece, where during her speech she stated that the Strait of Hormuz should be reopened without any fees or restrictions.

Meloni said that Italy is convinced that a lasting solution to the ongoing crisis in the strait must be based on several essential points.

Among other things, he added that they are ready to contribute to navigation safety once the Strait of Hormuz opens.

"The first is the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, without discriminatory taxes or restrictions, because the prosperity not only of the Mediterranean and the Gulf, but of the entire world depends on freedom of navigation. Italy is ready to do its part to contribute, as soon as the right conditions are created, to the safety of navigation, building on what has already been done in the Red Sea and the Indian Ocean with the (European Union) Aspides and Atalanta missions ," Meloni said.

The Italian Prime Minister also asserted that Iran cannot be allowed to acquire nuclear weapons and, consequently, threaten its neighbors. /CNA
