Trump: US and Nigerian forces killed top ISIS commander

President Donald Trump has said that US and Nigerian forces have eliminated a senior ISIS commander during an operation that he claims has reduced the power of the ISIS group.

"Tonight, at my direction, brave American forces and the Nigerian Armed Forces successfully executed a carefully planned and highly complex mission to eliminate the world's most active terrorist from the battlefield. He will no longer terrorize the people of Africa, nor will he help plan operations to target Americans," Trump declared.

According to documents from the US Office of Foreign Assets Control, al-Minuki was born in 1982 in the northeastern Nigerian state of Borno, which borders Cameroon, Chad and Nigeria.

Trump did not specify where the attack took place. He said al-Minuki thought he might be hiding in Africa, but did not know that from sources keeping U.S. forces informed.

This is not the first strike Trump has ordered against suspected ISIS militants in Nigeria, whom he has accused of persecuting Christians in the West African country.
