The Italian government led by Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has presented a new draft law that condemns the use of anglicisms or other foreign words in official communications. The fine will start from 5,000 to 100,000 euros.

The objective of the law, which has received widespread criticism in the country even from the most renowned scholars of Italian linguistics and philology, the prestigious Accademia della Crusca, is to "protect and promote the Italian language" and protect national identity.

The new proposal, supported by the prime minister, was presented by Fabio Rampelli, a member of the Chamber of Deputies.

With a post on Twitter published on his Twitter profile, the deputy has given an example of the so-called "Anglomania", which will lead to the fining of Italian politicians and officials if the law is approved.

"In the Chamber of Deputies we speak Italian, writes Rampelli, we continue our battle for the use of our language instead of English"./  CNA.al
