Macron and Von der Leyen meet today with Xi Jinping

The French President, Emmanuel Macron, and the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, will meet today with the Chinese leader, Xi Jinping.

They arrived in Beijing on Wednesday and will be received by the Chinese president on Thursday.

Discussions between Macron, Xi and Von der Leyen will mainly focus on trade, the war in Ukraine and climate change.

Yesterday, the French president said that China has a major role in the path to peace in Ukraine, and that France is seeking to work with Beijing "in this shared responsibility for peace and stability" in Kiev.
