The new president of Montenegro, Jakov Millatovic, told "Nova" television that the European path of Montenegro is indisputable, and that the foreign policy - based on the signed international agreements - will not change.

Asked by journalists if this means that it is not realistic to expect the withdrawal of Kosovo's recognition, Millatovic said that "this is clear".

"Ne mbështesim gjithçka për të cilën do të bien dakord Beogradi dhe Prishtina. Mendoj se normalizimi i marrëdhënieve midis Beogradit dhe Prishtinës është i rëndësishëm për të gjitha vendet në rajon, dhe Mali i Zi dëshiron të jetë një fqinj i mirë që do të promovojë marrëdhënie të mira fqinjësore", tha ai.

Në raundin e dytë të zgjedhjeve të së dielës, më 2 prill, Millatoviq mposhti ish-presidentin e Malit të Zi, Milo Gjukanoviq, duke i dhënë fund qeverisjes disadekadëshe të Partisë Demokratike të Socialistëve në Podgoricë.

Në deklaratat e mëparshme për media, ai ka konfirmuar se mbështet nismën rajonale të Ballkanit të Hapur, të cilës Mali i Zi aktualisht nuk i përket.

Millatoviç tha se beson se e ardhmja e Ballkanit Perëndimor është europiane dhe se Mali i Zi mund të jetë një partner i rëndësishëm atje.

“Mali i Zi mund të luajë një rol të rëndësishëm - si një lokomotivë që mund të jetë e para që do të hyjë në BE - dhe tani t'i shtyjmë, gjithashtu, të gjitha vendet e Ballkanit Perëndimor që të na bashkohen”, tha ai.

Në një intervistë për "Associated Press", ai tha se një nga prioritetet kryesore të politikës së jashtme do të jetë përshpejtimi i anëtarësimit të vendit në BE, dhe se shpreson që Mali i Zi të bëhet anëtar i BE-së në pesë vitet e ardhshme.

Milatoviq theksoi se kjo është veçanërisht e rëndësishme kur bëhet fjalë për pushtimin rus të Ukrainës.

"So a foreign policy in full compliance with that of the EU is what Montenegro should lead in the future, and this is especially important now when it comes to Russian aggression in Ukraine. I think that in Europe, and obviously in Montenegro, no one can support the invasion of another sovereign state", he said.

On Monday, the European Union expressed readiness to work with the newly elected president of Montenegro, expressing the belief that this country will remain committed to the European path./REL
