The prosecution files an indictment against the former head of KEK for abuse of

The Special Prosecutor's Office of Kosovo filed an indictment on Monday against the former chief executive of the Kosovo Energy Corporation (KEK), Nagip Krasniqi, for abuse of office.

The prosecution accuses Krasniqi of breach of duty during a period of less than two years.

"The defendant NK, starting from October 15, 2021 and continuing until April 19, 2023, in the capacity of an official person, using the official duty, committed the criminal offense of misuse of official position or authority," the announcement states.

The prosecution did not provide any other details about the violations for which it accuses Krasiniq, who was appointed head of the KEK in 2021.

Krasniqi was arrested in April 2023 and kept in custody under suspicion of abuse of position, exercise of influence and conflict of interest.

He was released in September 2023. KEK suspended Krasniq from office last year, while at the beginning of this year, he was finally dismissed from office and opened a competition for a new chief executive.

The Kosovo Energy Corporation is one of the main energy companies in the country. The assets of the corporation are fully owned by the Government of Kosovo./ Rel
