US President Donald Trump held a meeting this Friday with New York City Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani.
The meeting was held in the Oval Office at the White House and in the presence of journalists.
At the start of the meeting, President Trump congratulated Mamdani on his election victory.
Mamdani traveled to Washington for the meeting, during which he told reporters he is ready to work with Trump to combat affordability in one of the world's most expensive cities, and his discussion with Trump today focused not on their political disagreements but on their shared goal of serving New Yorkers.
Trump expressed his enthusiasm and support, saying that Mamdani would be an excellent mayor of New York City.
Mamdani is expected to take office on January 1, 2026, becoming New York's first Muslim mayor and the first of South Asian descent. /CNA
