Petkovic condemns the oath of the new mayors in the north of Kosovo

The head of the Office for Kosovo in the Government of Serbia, Petar Petkovic, said on Thursday that with the swearing in of the new mayors in the municipalities in the north of Kosovo, the occupation of four municipalities has been formalized.

" The occupation has never been a permanent situation in history, so it will not be even in the four municipalities in the north of Kosovo, and it will end soon, however, the Serbian people, more than the occupation of [Kosovo Prime Minister, Albin] "Kurti will remember the shameful way fake democracies gave the green light for something like this ," Petkovic said on Thursday.

The new mayors of the municipalities in the north of Kosovo, all Albanians, were sworn in on May 19 and 25.

The municipalities in the north, North Mitrovica, Zvecani, Leposaviqi and Zubin Potoku, are inhabited by a majority of Serbs.

The mayor of North Mitrovica is Erden Atiq from the Vetëvendosje Movement, while the deputy mayor of the municipality is Katarina Agjançiq from the Serbian community.

The new chairman of Zveçan is Ilir Peci from the Democratic Party of Kosovo, and of Leposaviq, Lulzim Hetemi from the Vetëvendosje Movement.

Hetemi has appointed Dragana Milletiq as vice-president, from the ranks of the Serbian community.

The chairman of Zubin Potok is Izmir Zeqiri, also from the Democratic Party of Kosovo.

"Perhaps never in the history of democracy has there been an election with such an insignificant result", Petkovic said in a statement.

He said that "Serbs are the ones who should decide on their national destiny".

Petkovic reacted similarly to the swearing in of Atiq in North Mitrovica, on May 19.

Atiq is the only one of the four mayors who was sworn in at the municipality building.

The other three were sworn in on Thursday in "public buildings", mainly in villages inhabited by the Albanian population.

The problem of using municipal buildings lies in the fact that they operate under the Serbian system, and the new mayors do not have access to them.

The local elections in the north of Kosovo were held on April 23, after the collective resignation of the Serbs from the institutions of Kosovo, as a sign of dissatisfaction with the decision of the Government of Kosovo to re-register cars with Serbian license plates in the RKS - Republic of Kosovo.

Lista Serbe - the largest party of Serbs in Kosovo - has called for a boycott of the elections.

This party enjoys the support of official Belgrade.

She said that she does not accept the election result.

The turnout in the April elections was 3.47 percent./REL
