A judge at the head of the Greek technical government

Greece is heading for early elections after former Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis refused to cooperate with other parties to form a government.

Based on this situation, President Sakellaropoulo appointed judge Ioannis Sarmas to head the technical government.

Former Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis warned of a difficult political situation for Greece shortly before the elections.

The vote of the Greek citizens this time was decentralized, bringing the need for a coalition between the dominant party this election, that of former Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and other parties as the only way to create a government.

Sarmas will hold a meeting with President Sakelaropulu and then expect to start work on the formation of the technical government and to lead the country to early elections.

In advance, President Katerina Sakelaropoulou held a short meeting with the heads of the main Greek political parties who have been elected to the next parliament in the May 21 elections.

To speed up the necessary procedures, the parliament will meet on Sunday. After that, the interim government will be sworn in, leading to the dissolution of parliament and the holding of snap elections on June 25.

Kyriakos Mitsotakis and his New Democracy party received massive support in these elections but not enough for the formation of the government, so he handed over the mandate to the Greek President, Katerina Sakellaropoulou with the intention of going to the elections again.
