Despite Trump's announcement, bombings on the Thailand-Cambodia border

The Cambodian government announced today that Thai armed forces have not stopped shelling in the disputed border area, hours after US President Donald Trump announced that, following his mediation, the leaders of the two countries had agreed to a ceasefire.

For his part, Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul said that military operations will continue until threats to the country and its people are eliminated, denouncing violations of the agreed ceasefire by the Cambodian side, as reported by foreign media.

On Friday, Trump announced via a post on the Truth Social platform that Thailand and Cambodia had agreed to a ceasefire, following a phone call with the prime ministers of both countries, Anutin Charnvirakul and Hun Sen.

Fighting has continued along the disputed Thai-Cambodian border since Monday, killing at least 20 people and forcing hundreds of thousands of people to flee their homes. This follows a five-day military conflict in July that left 43 dead and more than 300,000 displaced.

Political analysts consider it extremely difficult to reach a comprehensive peace agreement that would resolve the long-standing confrontation between the two kingdoms over the demarcation of borders that were drawn during the French occupation of the former Indochina.
