Venezuelan opposition leader Juan Pablo Guanipa kidnapped after release from

Maria Corina Machado, the leader of the Venezuelan opposition, said that politician Juan Pablo Guanipa was kidnapped in the Los Chorros area of ??Caracas, just hours after he had been released as part of a political prisoner release carried out by Venezuelan authorities.

The location and who kidnapped him are still unknown and so far there has been no official statement from the government about this incident.

Guanipa is a leading figure in the Venezuelan opposition, an ally of Maria Corina Machado, known in politics for his criticism of the previous government. He was arrested in May 2025, accused by authorities of involvement in a group called "terrorist" and conspiracy to obstruct the elections. The opposition and his family denied these charges.

Before the kidnapping, Guanipa had been released after spending more than eight months in prison, as part of a series of political prisoner releases that Venezuela had initiated under international pressure to free political opponents. /CNA
