Storm 'Marta' hits Iberian Peninsula/ One victim in Portugal and major flooding in Spain

Storm 'Marta' hit Portugal and Spain today, causing flooding, extensive damage and leaving one victim.

A 54-year-old Portuguese firefighter lost his life during a surveillance patrol near the banks of a river, in the municipality of Campo Maior in the central area of ??Portalegre.

Storm 'Marta' has brought heavy rain, strong winds and major flooding, especially in parts of southern Andalusia in Spain, where authorities have declared a weather alert and ordered the evacuation of residents for safety reasons.

Authorities in both countries have issued warnings of rising river levels, as well as possible risks of landslides and mudslides in flooded areas. Numerous roads have been blocked, railway stations have been closed and thousands of people have been evacuated due to flooding and extreme weather conditions. /CNA
