The famous Italian island of Capri, located in the Bay of Naples, is introducing new rules starting from the 2026 summer season to better manage the influx of tourists who visit its small area every day.
Organized tourist groups of more than 40 people will be banned from entering the island, to avoid mass gatherings and overcrowding of streets and tourist attractions during the high season.
Tour guides accompanying groups of over 20 people will be forced to use wireless headphones instead of loud speakers.
They should also wear a visible identification mark, instead of visible objects such as tents or flags, to be more clearly identified by the group.
These rules were approved by the Capri municipal council and aim to improve the movement of people, the quality of stay for visitors and the daily life of local residents, while reducing the mass tourism that overwhelms the island in the summer months.
Capri has about 13,000 permanent residents, but in the hot summer season the number of people visiting can reach up to about 50,000 per day. /CNA
