The United Nations agency for Palestinian refugees said thousands of people have forced their way into aid depots in Gaza to get food and "other basic survival items".
Thomas White, the agency's director in Gaza, said on October 29 that this raid on food depots "is a worrying sign that civil order is beginning to break down" after three weeks of war between Israel and Hamas, which rules Gaza.
The agency, known as UNRWA, provides basic services to hundreds of thousands of people in Gaza. Schools run by this agency throughout the Gaza Strip have been turned into shelters for Palestinians displaced by the conflict.
Gaza is under siege and has been facing constant air, sea and ground attacks from Israel since Hamas launched an attack on Israel on October 7, killing over 1,400 people.
Israel has blocked supplies of fuel, water and electricity to Gaza, home to 2.3 million Palestinians. Israeli authorities have allowed only a small portion of aid to Palestinians to enter through the Rafah crossing, which connects Gaza with Egypt.
