WHO: Accelerate efforts for global vaccination of children against measles and

Efforts to vaccinate children against deadly diseases such as measles and diphtheria worldwide began to accelerate in 2022 after a historic setback caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, according to the latest data released today by the World Health Organization (WHO). and the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF).

The acceleration in childhood vaccination is not uniform, as large countries with lower and intermediate standards such as India and Indonesia statistically mask the problems that exist in many smaller and poorer countries, the report said.

In 2022, 20.5 million children missed one or more mandatory vaccines, which is less than in 2021 when 24.4 million children missed childhood vaccines.

Data on vaccination of children against diphtheria, tetanus and whooping cough have been published based on surveys conducted in 183 countries. Globally, the vaccination coverage rate for children was 86 percent before the pandemic and 84 percent in 2022.

The Director General of the WHO, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, said that the figures were "encouraging", but stressed that concerns remain over the fact that the most vulnerable were left without protection./ CNA
