Italy: About 1,000 flights are canceled as a result of the strike

The national strike of air traffic workers in Italy, which took place on Saturday, resulted in the cancellation of nearly 1,000 flights, the ANSA news agency reported.

According to the unions, which have called for a strike, almost all the workers who are expected to strike have joined the action.

They are seeking a new collective agreement six years after the previous contract expired.

The ground staff, which is responsible for passenger registration services, also participated.

In Italy's biggest airports alone: ??in Rome, Milan, Naples and Venice, hundreds of flights have been cancelled, affecting over 250,000 passengers.

The Codacons Consumer Protection Association believes that the damages caused by flight cancellations are worth millions of euros.

In addition to the ground staff, also the pilots of the Malta Air company, who carry out the flights of the Ryanair company in Italy, and pilots of the Vueling airline company, have participated in the strike.

This is the second time in a week that a strike of this scale has been held in Italy.
