Escobar is expected to report to the US Congress on the Western Balkans

Gabriel Escobar, the emissary of the United States of America for the Western Balkans, is expected to report to the American Congress about the Western Balkans and especially about the developments in Kosovo.

It is learned that in advance Escobar has sent a document to Congress about the latest developments.

The focal point of his report is expected to be the implementation of the Agreement on the Road to Normalization between Kosovo and Serbia, which includes the necessity for the establishment of the Association of municipalities with a Serbian majority in the north of Kosovo.

"The key element is the fulfillment of Kosovo's obligation to establish the Association of Municipalities with a Serbian majority in 2013. AKS would empower municipalities with common interests, language and culture to coordinate common challenges in the provision of several public services, including education, health care and local economic development. Moreover, Kosovo and Serbia agreed to mutually recognize national documents and symbols," the document states.

Among other things, the Ohrid agreement is also mentioned in the report.

"Since the parties reached these agreements, there have been serious provocations, escalated tensions and unacceptable violence by Serbian protesters against KFOR, the police and journalists in the north of Kosovo. In response, NATO deployed elements of reserve forces to reinforce the mission; maintains an expanded position in the north of Kosovo to ensure a safe and secure environment in accordance with its UN mandate," it says, among other things./ CNA
