"There is no turning back"/ Lebanese President: The cessation of military activity is a final decision

Lebanese President Joseph Aoun has declared that the government's move to immediately halt the military activity of the Hezbollah group is final, stressing that there is no turning back from this decision.

President Aoun said the cabinet's decision obliges Hezbollah to hand over its weapons to the state, underlining that the authority to decide on matters of war and peace belongs solely to Beirut.

In a statement posted on "X", Aoun described the decision as an action that would preserve the right of the Lebanese state alone, and no one else, to decide on war and peace.

The decision followed cross-border tensions after Hezbollah fired rockets into Israel in response to hundreds of Israeli attacks carried out despite a ceasefire agreed in November 2024, which Tel Aviv has repeatedly violated.

The missiles also came in response to the Israeli-American war against Iran. Recent Israeli bombings across Lebanon have killed at least 52 people. /CNA
