France's recognition of the state/Macron: Embassy in Palestine will only

French President Emmanuel Macron has announced plans for France to recognize the Palestinian state. 

In an interview with American media outlet CBS News, Macron said this act would make France the first Western member of the UN Security Council to give its consent.

Macron focused on the conditions set for such a decision, emphasizing that the French Embassy in Palestine will only open after the hostages are released.

"I think it was necessary to decide on this recognition first and I will announce it on September 22 at the United Nations, precisely because we are at a moment when, if we want peace and security for everyone in the region, we must maintain the state of a political perspective for everyone. So, we will announce the recognition, but this is the beginning of a political process and a plan for peace and security for everyone. So, immediately after this - this recognition, we have a first phase, which is, I would say, the emergency phase, the ceasefire, the release of all the hostages... and the third, the restoration of humanitarian routes and the stabilization of Gaza. We have a second package, which is a day later we will return to how to organize Gaza in terms of governance, security and reconstruction. And the third package, the two-state perspective. But recognizing the Palestinian state today is the only way to offer a political solution to a situation that must be stopped," Macron said./CNA
