People used drugs 3 thousand years ago in Spain, where the scientists are based

According to a new study, people have been using drugs in Spain around 3,000 years ago.

Scientists say hairs at a burial site in Menorca show that ancient human civilizations used drugs found in plants and shrubs. 

This is believed to be the oldest direct evidence in Europe of people using drugs earlier, the BBC reports . 

The findings, published in the journal Scientific Reports, showed signs of human activity in the Es Càrritx cave, on the southwest side of Menorca.
