Sweden has agreed to extradite a Turkish citizen, Omer Altun (29 years old), who was sentenced to 15 years in prison for fraud in Turkey, at Turkey's request.
This extradition is taking place at a time when Turkey is constantly rejecting Sweden's admission to NATO.
The extradition of persons wanted by Turkish justice and Sweden's refusal to meet official Ankara's demands is one of the issues that have so far prevented Turkey from accepting Sweden's accession to NATO.
In addition, authorities in Ankara are demanding tougher action from the government in Stockholm against Kurdish activists in Sweden, whom Turkish authorities call terrorists.
Omer Altun's extradition was approved by the Swedish Ministry of Justice after the Swedish Supreme Court gave the green light, and in a written decision on March 30, the Swedish government stated that it "no longer sees any obstacles to extradition".
