Kosovo Police have announced that in coordination with the Institute of Forensic Medicine and the Government Commission for Missing Persons, they conducted excavations in the cemetery of the village of Hajvali, Pristina, on October 20, and found human skeletal remains, suspected to be those of at least three people who disappeared during the war in Kosovo in 1998-1999.

Police said the order was issued by the Basic Court in Pristina.

According to this institution, the mortal remains have been withdrawn by the Institute of Forensic Medicine for examinations and that the work will continue in the coming days.

During the 1998/99 war in Kosovo, around 13,000 people were killed, while over 1,500 remain missing.

Most of those killed were Albanian civilians.

Kosovo and Serbia reached an agreement until 2023 on the Joint Declaration on Missing Persons, within the framework of the dialogue for the normalization of relations mediated by the European Union.

The agreement included: full access to confidential information, including that with classified status; the provision of all documents important for determining the fate of missing persons, as well as joint work through a commission chaired by the European Union.

Everything continues to remain on paper, because not a single point has been implemented./ REL
