Israeli President Isaac Herzog has said that his country is facing a very difficult moment.

Herzog called on citizens to follow instructions from Home Front Command and show mutual responsibility and determination.

While he encourages the soldiers and says that he wants to offer them strength. 

"The State of Israel is facing a very difficult moment. I wish to offer strength to the commanders and soldiers of the IDF (Israel Defense Forces) and all security forces and rescue services. I send my encouragement and strength to all the residents of Israel who are under attack. He called on everyone to follow the instructions from the Home Front Command and show mutual responsibility and determination. We can defeat all those who wish us harm ," it says he in a post on the X social network.

In the early hours of Saturday, the Islamist movement Hamas launched a major attack on Israel by introducing gunmen and launching barrages of rockets from the Gaza Strip.

As warning sirens went off across southern and central Israel, including Jerusalem, the Israeli military said it was on a war footing as Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called an emergency meeting of security officials.
