The Prime Minister of Kosovo launches the campaign for visa-free travel in the

The Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, has officially launched an information campaign on visa-free travel rules in the Schengen Area.

This is the final step in a long-sought and long-delayed process before the implementation of the visa-free agreement, with the prime minister confirming that it will finally come into effect from January 1, 2024, reports SchengenVisaInfo.com  .

"After a long wait and a lot of hard work, i.e. during the last two years, visa liberalization for citizens is coming on January 1. Today, together with our partners, we started an information campaign on the rules of visa-free travel to prepare our citizens for what is on the horizon", said Kurti.

Kosovo's membership in the rest of the neighboring countries of the Western Balkans that do not need a visa to travel to European Union countries for short-term stays was also confirmed by the German Embassy in Kosovo earlier this week.

The visa-free travel agreement for Kosovo passport holders was approved by the EU in April of this year. However, concerns were raised after the comments of the French president, Emmanuel Macron, that his country may review the commitments it has made on the political and economic issues of visas for Kosovo and Serbia.

Kosovo and Serbia intend to become members of the EU, but Brussels emphasized that they must first resolve their dispute through a mediated dialogue.

On December 14 of last year, Kosovo officially submitted the EU membership application and is awaiting the finalization of this process. Last month, the chairman of the European Committee for NATO (NGO), Gunther Fehlinger, said that Kosovo should be part of the bloc until 2029.
