Military mobilization in Los Angeles will cost $134 million

President Donald Trump has said the National Guard will remain in Los Angeles "until there is no longer any danger," as demonstrators and police clashed in scattered protests in downtown Los Angeles for the fourth consecutive day.

About 700 Marines have been activated to help protect federal personnel and property. Trump is defending his decision to mobilize an additional 2,000 National Guard members, a doubling of his initial deployment of those troops.

A senior Pentagon official told Congress that the mobilization will cost the Defense Department approximately $134 million.

Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass sharply criticized Trump's actions, saying the deployment of military personnel was "not necessary." Bass also said those involved in violence and vandalism would be prosecuted./ CNA
