US media: China could invade Taiwan in the next 5 years

US President Donald Trump's advisers do not hide their concern about the possibility of China invading Taiwan within the next 5 years, writes the American media 'Axios'.

China's relations with Taiwan have long been at Cold War levels. Donald Trump's advisers, speaking to 'Axios', say that Xi Jinping could make such a move to cut off the supply of sophisticated microchips that are essential to power the artificial intelligence systems of American companies.

Although Trump seemed pleased with the warm reception he received during his recent visit to Beijing, his aides emphasize that diplomatic courtesy does not necessarily reflect China's true intentions.

One of the US president's advisers believes that President Xi is trying to make it clear to us that China is not just a rising power, but an equal player and that Taiwan belongs to China.
