The sentence against the 99-year-old former secretary in a Nazi camp remains in

The Federal Court of Justice in Germany has upheld the conviction of 99-year-old Irmgard F., former secretary of the Stutthof concentration camp, accused of inciting the mass murder of more than 10,000 people between June 1943 and April 1945.

The court, based in the eastern city of Leipzig, rejected the appeal against the decision of the Itzehoe Regional Court, in the northern city of Hamburg, in December 2022.

The regional court sentenced the woman to two years of conditional imprisonment for aiding and abetting murder in 10,505 cases and attempted murder in five cases.

The woman, identified under German privacy laws as Irmagard F., was sentenced as if she were under the age of 21, as she was a minor at the time of the crimes.

Tuesday's decision is final.

This case is considered to be among the last criminal trials to address the mass murders committed by the Nazis.

Irmgard F. worked as a typist in the commandant's office at the Nazi concentration camp Stuttof in what was once the city of Danzig – now Gdansk in Poland – until she was 18 or 19 years old.

The regional court has assessed that during her work, she helped camp officials in the systematic killing of detainees.

Even just supporting the activities there can legally be seen as incitement to murder./ REL
