Armenia-Azerbaijan Agreement/ Pope Leo: War is not a means of resolving conflicts

Addressing the faithful gathered in St. Peter's Square for Sunday's Angelus, Pope Leo expressed satisfaction with the new peace agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan.

Pope Leo cited the agreement signed on August 8 by Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev as a sign of hope.

"Their joint declaration is an important step forward and one that we all hope will contribute to a lasting and lasting peace in the South Caucasus," the Pope said.

War must be rejected as a “means of resolving conflicts.” This was the urgent appeal issued by Pope Leo XIV to the international community and its leaders, made after Sunday’s Angelus prayer.

The Pope called on leaders to take responsibility and actively work towards peace, a goal for which he urged believers to never stop praying./CNA
