Macron: Kiev should be included in talks to end the war

French President Macron on the eve of the meeting between Putin and Trump in Alaska is committed to Ukraine. Kiev must be included in the talks to end the war, Macron writes on the X platform.

As part of international consultations in the UK regarding US President Donald Trump's plans for Ukraine, French President Emmanuel Macron has insisted that Ukraine be included in the talks.

US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin plan to meet on August 15 in Alaska for bilateral talks on ending the war in Ukraine. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is not expected to attend the talks so far.

Are changes to the map of Ukraine expected?

Even before their meeting, Trump and Putin have been sketching out changes to the map of Ukraine. This includes the secession of Ukrainian territories that could pass to Russia.

The indignation in Kiev is quite great: "Any decision against us, any decision without Ukraine is a decision against peace," President Zelenskyy told news agencies.

"The answer to Ukraine's territorial issues is in the Ukrainian constitution. No one will avoid it and no one can avoid it," he said in a video message. "Ukrainians will not give their country to the occupier."

Klitschko: Ukrainians tired of war

Meanwhile, Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko does not rule out territorial secession. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy must make difficult decisions, Klitschko said in an interview with the Bild newspaper, highlighting the population's fatigue from the war.

"Everyone in our state, in our country is tired of this war." He underlined that Ukrainians have paid a high price for this: "The lives of our patriots, of our soldiers, of our citizens. Hundreds of cities have been destroyed. A large part of Ukraine has been occupied by Russia."/ DW
