Montenegro refuses to extradite a former FSB colonel to Russia

Montenegro has rejected Russia's request to extradite Dmitry Sen, a former officer of the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB).

Senin fled Russia in 2017 to avoid possible arrest in connection with a case involving his friend and relative, former Interior Ministry colonel Dmitry Zakharchenko.

He has sought political asylum in Montenegro, arguing that he fears political persecution in Russia.

The decision of Montenegro not to accept the request for Senini's extradition due to the alleged persecution in Russia for political reasons, REL reports.

Senin is currently facing trial in absentia for desertion, and in 2021 Russian authorities declared him an internationally wanted person. If convicted, Senin could face up to seven years in prison in Russia.
