Macron: France to ban social media access for children under 15

President Emmanuel Macron said France will ban access to social media for children under the age of 15 within months if this is not done at the European level.

"We must ban social media for those under 15. I'm giving us a few months to start the European mobilization. Otherwise... we'll start doing it in France. We can't wait," Macron said.

Macron made the remarks to public television channel France 2 after a member of school staff was stabbed by a 14-year-old student at the entrance to a high school in Nogent.

The teenager was arrested at the scene.

A police officer who was assisting with bag checks suffered minor injuries during the arrest of the suspect, who used the same knife in both attacks, according to the National Gendarmerie.

It was not immediately clear whether the attack was related to anything the student had seen on social media./CNA
